Angkringan a traditional place at Jogja very cheap cost and pleasant.

In the beginning Angkringan only available in Center Java. Name of Angkrigan taken by javanese language "Angkring" or "Ngangkring" that mean make a comfortable sit down position and get on together in some place.

Early, this is an activity for the poor survive and get money from sell many kind of food and beverage using gerobak. Gerobak is a call for place where is kind of food and beverage placed. Gerobak usually has 2 tires, roof, and place to put kind of food and for make beverage for buyer. Angkringan usually just open in the evening, about 6 p.m until 12 p.m or until all the food is sold. The most favorite beverage is Wedang Jahe and the most famous food from Angkringan is Sego Kucing also Gorengan.

Every body know that Angkringan just available open in the evening until midnight, when the weather is very cold. Wedang Jahe is a beverage made from jahe (in English: ginger) and java palm sugar. So, there are a lot of people looking for Wedang Jahe to keep their body warm in the night. Meanwhile, Sego Kucing is a packet of rice with simple side dish in mini size. Sego is Javanese language from rice and Kucing is Javanese language from cat.


Why everybody call Sego Kucing? becasue it is consist of rice in mini size like a cat not like macan (a tiger). I guess you know why it compared between a cat and a tiger, isn't it. Angkringan is famous for who don't have enough money to eat in restaurant. You know how much is Sego Kucing cost? it is about Rp. 1000,- (USD 0.1) for each packet, and Gorengan is a call for snacks, usually consist of Mendoan (made from tempe, fermented soybean cake), Tahu Goreng (made from tahu and little vegetable like carrot, bean sprouts, etc), also Gedang goreng (made from banana which is fried with wheat flour). Dish menu which is offered by Angkringan is a lot kind also unique. The most unique according to the travelooking is sate keong, sate is small pieces of meat roasted on skewer, keong is snail. So, sate keong also can be translated by small pieces of snail meat roasted on skewer. Acoording to the buyer, there are a lot of "sate keong" lover. Perhaps, it's delicious. Proof them if you have any eager desire.

How Angkringan history is success make the poor survive and get a lot money from them, also how comfertable Angkringan be a place for gathering with friends. It makes a lot of new entrepreneur increasing this business become more modern and comfortable. Now, you can find a lot of Angkringan in modern shape in Java (Yogyakarta, Bandung, Solo, and others big city else), surely Indonesia. If you come to Indonesia, especially in Yogyakarta, I give you an advice to try menu dish in Angkringan, the simple, cheap, and delicious dish. Usually, the Indonesian younger love Angkringan because they guess it is friendly. It is a suitable place for gathering with your friends. Ask your friend from Indonesia to accompany you try how comfortable Angkringan is (this advice just for who like simple). Yogyakarta is known be a polite city, and I guess why there is a lot of "Angkringa" here. There are some recommended modern Angkringan which is located in Yogyakarta.

1. Angkringan KR: Located in Jl. P. Mangkubumi, In front of Kedaulatan Rakyat office. (Kedaulatan Rakyat is a name of daily newspaper)

2. Angkringan Wijilan: also known with Angkringan Kang Harjo (Kang Harjo is the owner) is located in district Wijilan. Because it is very crowded each day, the owner make the upstairs.

3. Angkringan Sendang: There are two place, that is in Jl. Solo Km.15, Prambanan, Sleman, Yogyakarta/Solo street Km.15, Prambanan, Sleman, Yogyakarta (in front of Sendang Ayu's restaurant) and Jl. Babarsari No.26R, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta/Babarsari street No.26R (in front of STTNas)

4. Angkringan Bangsawan: this is the top one, you can enjoy simple dish menu in java noble place. It is located in Jl. Sompilan Ngasem No. 12, Yogyakarta.
